The People's Choice were Jade, Emil, & Yuan. The Mod's Choice were Stahn & Keele.
almateria had this to say about Stahn's icon...
This icon is certainly creative, and I think you interpreted the Phantasia theme nicely! Though the icon is a tad bit dark, the colors are still bright and striking; Mint's hair especially is a a very pretty yellow. I really love how you worked with the text, and the bird is such a cute touch ♥ Good job on the background texture, too, it fits the image and isn't distracting from Mint : )
almateria had this to say about Keele's icon...
Baaww, everything about this icon is amazing. You used all the guidelines amazingly, the image fits into them very well. Your manga coloring, first off, is exceptional, and the darker overall coloring fits the mood. The rounded edges look a bit iffy, but other than that, this is an amazing icon : D

Guy & Luke were eliminated this round due to having the least amount of points. The People's Choice were Dhaos, Genis, & Yuan. The Mod's Choice were Keele & Decus.
almateria had this to say about Keele's icon...
The simplicity in this one is actually pretty pleasing to the eye. The lack of extra effects helps bring focus to the original images, especially to the characters' expressions. Your cropping also helps that, so points for that! Awesome text as well, it's neat and readable in the limited space in your icon. There really isn't anything bad about this one, so well done : D
almateria had this to say about Decus's icon...
I loved this icon as soon as it was submitted. The coloring is very well done here, and the contrast between dark and light works pretty well. The text is just the right size, but maybe some decorative tiny text could've been added, but that's just a nitpick. Overall, a simple but great icon!

The People's Choice was Genis for the Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk & Community Icon categories. The Mod's Choice was Jade for the Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk category, and Yuan for the Community Icon category.
neonclover had this to say about Jade's icon...
The coloring here is very striking. I like the crop and how it fills up the whole icon, too. It's a very simple, borderline plain icon, but with how eye-catching the colors are, it's how simple should be done - crisp, with good contrast, and no unnecessary add-ons. Beautiful icon in its simplicity.
almateria had this to say about Yuan's icon...
The coloring is here is amazing, let me tell you. It was the first thing that caught me eye! Great job on cropping, too; the resized duplicate is a nice change from the typical duplicated-image icon, and you managed it well. The text is also used perfectly, and the tint is a great finishing touch. Awesome job on this one : )

Register for Round 4!
Now that Round 3 has ended, Round 4 can begin. If you want to participate, please post a reply with your LiveJournal username, the character(s) you wish to participate as (you won't have to icon them or anything), and an optional image of the character if you don't want a "default" image to be picked by the mods. Characters are given out first-come, first-serve, so please give at least three characters in case your first or second pick is already chosen by someone else.
Registration ends on March 16th. This contest lasts for about four months, so be *sure* that you have enough time to participate --- in Round 3, there were numerous people who dropped out even before the Prelim voting, which was a disappointment.

The Mod's Choice were Klarth & Arietta.
almateria had this to say about Klarth's icon...
While the composition is quite good, I absolutely love the coloring. Along with the Philia, you were the only one that dared to use an image other than Abyss, and from Symphonia no less! The coloring looks like it was the original image, and the enhancements add a nice glow to Presea, especially in her hair. The text is a taaad bit hard to read, but can be overlooked. It was a good idea to fade the bar behind the text rather than going with a solid color, because it doesn't take away the focus from Presea. Overall, this is a fantastic icon!
neonclover had this to say about Shirley's icon...
The lines in this icon are a bit grainy, and feel a bit oversharp, but the crop is excellent and the black bar at the top really helps enhance it. It's also a very effective textless portrayal of the theme given! The coloring is simple, but it works well enough. My only nitpick about the crop is the tip of Lloyd's blade showing against his shirt; it feels a little odd. Other than that, though, it's very dynamic and placed just right both horizontally and vertically. Excellent choice of image.

No one was eliminated this round. The People's Choice was Guy for the Swordsman icon, Zelos for the Healer icon, and Klarth for the Mage icon. The Mod's Choice were Luke for the Swordsman icon & Shirley for the Mage icon.
almateria had this to say about Luke's icon...
Though this icon is so simple, it's just breathtaking. The dark, subtle coloring and the use of textures (which I'm assuming those lines are) work very well together, and fit the gloomy mood of the icon. While the cropping of Luke is pretty good, moving the image around so that the bar isn't so much in the center would've been better, because it's obstructing. Overall, a great textless icon (which I will definitely use after this round is over!)
neonclover had this to say about Shirley's icon...
This icon caught my eye not only because of its colors (which are a lot more vibrant than the original screenshot) - but also because Shirley was the only contestant brave enough to actually use an in-game screenshot! The result is quite aesthetically pleasing, even if the blocky lines from the Symphonia in-game scenes contrast a bit with the color scheme. The highlighting of the feathers is beautiful and eye-catching, and I like the crop, even if it's unconventional with how the character is in a corner while the other corner is empty - it left just enough elements within the space of the icon. I found the rounded borders to be somewhat unnecessary, but I can see why they were added all the same. That was a big gamble, and the result is very lovely! You definitely deserve the recognition, Shirley, congratulations!

Iria got the lowest ranking in this round, which means she was eliminated. The People's Choice was Kyle for the Solo Battle icon, and Dist for the Team Battle icon. The Mod's Choice were Klarth for the Solo Battle icon & Shirley for the Team Battle icon.
neonclover had this to say about Klarth's icon...
This icon has very lovely coloring. The blush is a very cute touch, and I especially like the contrast between the darker and lighter tones in the icon. The tinytext is a nice touch - it's not particularly intrusive, and it fits in well with the background you chose. I think the only thing out of place here is the black bar - such a cheery icon could use either a white one, or a bar of a different color, or no bar at all! As it is it feels a little... ominous and contrasts with the overall happy feel of the character. Still, very lovely colors, a solid crop, and good contrast make this a lovely icon ♥
almateria had this to say about Shirley's icon...
Amazing coloring! You did a great job on sprucing up such a low-quality image with limited resources. Though I'll admit there's a tad bit more yellow on the second icon, but it's a small flaw. Cutting the image in half was a neat idea, because you already created a good balance between the two icons (Martel being placed higher, and Lloyd and Colette placed lower, for example). The coloring, as I said, is beautiful and quite eyecatching. Overall, a great icon set

The People's Choice were Dist & Zelos for the Sylvarant icon, and Chester & Sheena for the Tethe'alla icon. The Mod's Choice were Chester for the Sylvarant icon & Luke for the Tethe'alla.
neonclover had this to say about Klarth's icon...
It seems both my MCs were rather overlooked this round. 8D; What I liked most in your icon, Klarth, was the concept behind it - the idea for the composition is great, and I adore the selective coloring on Sync's clothing. What gets in the way of this icon, I find, is the background - it blends in too much with the foreground in terms of color, and the icon lacks a clear focus and feels very monochromatic as a result. Maybe having the background be b&w would've helped? Also, while I like the horizontal stripes, I think the round pattern to the right seems a little out of place and throws off the composition a little - leaving that area solid or using a different pattern could've worked better. Still, it was a great concept, and very original - image quality is also crisp and clear, which to me is very important. :3
neonclover also had this to say about Luke's icon...
Another overlooked icon. 8D; I like the simplicity in this one. The image of Asch is very solemn, and so it calls for little to no adornments, something this icon pulled off quite well. I do like the crop, and the colors you chose are very fitting of the image - however, I can't help but keep staring at his... ear. It's the image's fault, granted, but it's just so obviously there that it takes away the focus from Asch's face. I'm usually not fond of black bars, but perhaps having one here to help obscure the ear a little would've helped this. Otherwise, though, it's a very powerful crop that brings out the emotion of the image beautifully. One more thing, though - I'm aware that Abyss FMV caps are made of suck, but since you didn't resize this one enough (for good reason), the result is a little grainy. While it doesn't hinder the icon that much, it is a bit distracting.

The Mod's Choice were Colette for the Melange Gel icon & Shirley for the Orange Gel.
neonclover had this to say about Colette's icon...
All of your critiques complimented your coloring, and that's exactly why I chose this icon. You did an excellent job on the manga coloring, so well that it looks like a pre-colored image! The use of shadows and lighting/light textures bring a lot of life to the image. The crayon heart is a great finishing touch, I'm glad you added it! An awesome job, Colette
almateria had this to say about Shirley's icon...
Although many voters disliked the amount of negative space in this icon, I disagree! I quite like it. The fact Arietta has her back turned to the viewer gives this icon a melancholy feel, and the emptiness around her only enhances the effect. The colors, perhaps, could have been a little more subdued (to further enhance the melancholy feel), but even as it is, I find this to be a very pretty icon! I like the simplicity of the coloring, too, it fits the overall minimalistic atmosphere of the icon. Overall in my opinion, very beautifully done. Great job, Shirley!

Seems like amusing icons were all the rage this challenge. 8D This one made me snicker. I love the Phoenix Wright reference! The background chosen fits the image very nicely and helps with image focus a lot, too. :3 The image is nice and crisp, and the text is appropriately placed. My only nitpick would be that the notebook texture seems a little randomly placed, and other textures could have filled up space better - it's still a great icon though!
almateria had this to say about Sheena's icon...

Voting ends on Sunday, October 7th, 8:00PM EST.

The voting for the 1st Challenge of Round 2 is now underway. Anise did not submit an icon, so she is eliminated from the contest. Arietta used her skip, so she doesn't have to participate in this round.
There were two categories in this challenge: Heroes and Heroines. Heroes included any of the male leads in a Tales game (so no Zelos, but you could use Lloyd), and Heroines included any of the female leads (so no Sheena, but you could use Colette).
For your least favorites, you must choose one icon from each of the four categories, and include a critique on why you didn't like it, and what could be improved. This cannot be because you're biased towards not liking the character used --- it must be about how the icon was done. For your favorites, pick two from each category, and tell why you liked them. If you wish, you can give comments on any icon(s) you didn't pick as your least favorite / most favorite, but it isn't required.
Voting ends on Sunday, September 9th, 6:30PM EST.

The voting for the 1st Challenge of Round 2 is now underway. This LIMS contest uses Tales characters as aliases for the entrants, since their identity is hidden till the end of the current round (each round lasts 9-12 weeks). So, Harold and Sync have been eliminated due to not submitting an icon, and Luke, Morrison, Regal, and Van have withdrawn.
The voting scheme is a little different than the Tales of Awards icon contest, so be sure to read all of this carefully before you send in your entry here. There were four categories in this challenge --- Efreet, Celcius, Volt, and Luna. Efreet had to use a fire theme, with only male characters. Celcius had to have an icy theme, with only female characters. Volt had to have a thunder/lightning theme, but with no text whatsoever. And Luna had to have a light theme, with textures.
Voting ends on Sunday, August 26th, 6:30PM EST.

We have another partnership with the same people behind Tales of Awards --- this time, it's Tales of LIMS.
This is different from the one before --- LIMS stands for Last Icon Maker Standing. They have "rounds" that last 9-12 weeks, so if you want to participate, you need to enter beforehand. But everyone can vote when the voting period starts (much like with a normal icon contest).
Because the people who participate in this already know of the due dates, we will just be posting when voting occurs, and when the winners are revealed.
