(Note that the two class videos are from earlier in the week --- due to site/university stuff, I didn't have time to make the post for them.)
We have two more class videos (Warrior & Paladin), as well as two more Tales of characters (Luke fon Fabre & Lilith Aileron). The class section is now fully completed, and we're nearing the end of the new Tales of characters being revealed (since the game is releasing in Japan at the end of the month).
As you've probably seen around the internet on various forums and websites, Absolute Zero (headed by throughhim, who's working on the Tales of Innocence translation) & Phantasian Productions (headed by Cless, who's known for working on the Tales of Phantasia (PSX) and Tales of Destiny 2 (PS2) translations) are working together on a translation of the Director's Cut version of the PlayStation2 remake of Tales of Destiny.
They had planned to keep the project, which was secretly in the works since the Director's Cut version was released in Japan last January, but Penance's translation project on the official Tales of forums caused them to reveal the translation early (Cless was planning on revealing the game once his Phantasia translation was finished). They will be releasing a menu patch at first, followed by a full translation of the game. As with both of their prior translations, it will be done as if Namco-Bandai was releasing the game at retail, so the production values will be very high.
The official minisite has been updated with two more classes (Thief & Monk) and two more system videos. The first shows off the slot system, which allows you to have four preset Arte combinations ready, so you don't need to pause and go into the menu each time to edit your Artes --- instead, you just switch them in battle. The other video shows that some of the treasure chests have a puzzle that needs to be completed --- in this video's case, you need to move puzzle pieces around until you make out the summon spirit Undine.
The official Tales of Vesperia minisite was updated with New Years-themed cards, featuring each of the characters and one group shot, using chibi artwork. They can be viewed on this page in our Gallery.
throughhim413 posted this video on his blog as an Christmas present for everyone keeping up on his Tales of Innocence translation. Be sure to leave a comment on his blog and YouTube video after you're done watching it.
The official minisite has been updated with two new system videos. One shows off the player's Mystic Arte, and the other shows off the Infinity Jam system taken from Tales of Innocence.
It's that time again --- the questionnaire for Tales of Hearts is now up. As usual, we have all of the wallpapers available for download, via the link above.
Symphonic Heaven has gotten a hold of a English screenshot of Tales of Hearts. As you can see, it looks extremely professional, so I doubt this is a simple Photoshop attempt (you would have seen discolorations and the like around the font).
When Symphonic Heaven discovers any more information about this screenshot, we'll be sure to keep you updated. For now, why not comment on your theory about the origins of the image? ;)
As some people guessed, this was a fan translation-ish image, which was done by throughhim, known lately for doing the Tales of Innocence fan translation. We meant this originally as a way to build up hype to get Namco-Bandai to notice the interest in the game, as well as fans outside of the official forums to know about the game.
Things began to turn into some sort of a viral marketing thing, so we decided to end the speculation before things got out of hand. If you want to see throughhim's statement on this, please check this link.
Thanks to Dengeki Online, we now know the results of the 4th Tales of Ranking Contest (which were revealed at Jump Festa 2009). There's fifty characters in all, so click the full story link below for the entire list...
Thanks to Gpara, we have some information about the events that took place at this year's Jump Festa.
People were expecting a blowout reveal like last year for Tales of Vesperia, though this event was somewhat lackluster in that regard. The game has been in development for the last two years, and is currently known by the codename Tales of 10. The setting of the game is based off of Europe's Middle Ages. The voice acting is said to have been completed, although the character designer is still under-wraps (so all of you trying to guess what team is developing this are still stuck). More concrete information on the details of the game is said to be released sometime in Spring 2009.
As for the rumor mill portion of this post, Hideo Baba (the Tales of series brand manager) talked about his hopes to have a Tales of Hearts anime be produced sometime in the future. Note that this isn't an official announcement, just him talking about wanting it to be possibly produced sometime in the future. The source of this article can be found here.
The official minisite has been updated with three new character videos, which brings the total number of playable Tales of characters revealed to 41 (remember, around 50 was the total number referenced by the staff, and we don't know if Barbatos & Dhaos were part of that number).
The official minisite has been updated with two new battle videos. The first shows Kohak doing a 100+ hit combo, which is performed by repeating the same arte over and over again (it looks luke Beryl is using an arte to allow Kohak to keep repeating the Arte), with two Mystic Artes used. The second is another cameo preview, which shows Anise Tatlin from Tales of the Abyss & KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga franchise.
The official minisite has been updated with two new dungeon videos. One shows the characters exploring a volcano, while the other shows them traveling on the World Map.
Namco-Bandai also released a special Christmas-themed card for the fans, which included the wallpaper to the left (formatted for widescreen computers). There was also a special .mp3 released, which can be found at this link (for viewing or downloading).
The official minisite has been updated with a new battle video, showing off the combo system, using all your party members to attain multi-hit combos. There's also three new cutscenes that were added...
The the Gallery has been updated with all of the images from the official website for the anime. We apologize for the lull in updating the section --- focus went to Version Six right after the last update to that section of the Gallery.
New images will be added with each update (i.e. how we do our updates for Tales Channel).
The official minisite has been updated with a new battle video, showing off the assist system that allows you to use attacks from party members not being currently used in your "battle" party. There's also three new cutscenes that were added...
The video for the next Tales of game has been released, which is for Nintendo's Wii. The character matches the image that was leaked a while ago during Nintendo's Japanese press confrence that revealed the Nintendo DSi.
Apparently this was included with Hearts as a preview video, and was leaked now because Hearts was leaked early.
In the third straight day of videos being released by Namco-Bandai (likely to garner attention for the game's release less than six days from now), we have a new battle video, but this time it features the cameo characters revealed via scans a while ago. You can see Jade from Tales of the Abyss, Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, Judas from Tales of Destiny 2, and Yayoi Takatsuki from THE iDOLM@STER being used as assists during battle.
The Videos section has been updated with download links for the videos listed in this post. Download links for all of the Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 videos are about 65% completed (half of the Characters and all of the promotional videos are still left).
User comments in the news posts are also in the works for being reenabled soon (after a few issues with the script are worked out). ;)
We also have an image of the finalized preorder DVD bonus for the game, as well as what will be included in it (thanks to throughhim for the translations). It includes the expected "Viva Tales" (with Zelos and Jade as the hosts), "Episode 1 & 2" of a serialized manga, a "Golden Victory Special" interview, development materials (sketches of the locations/characters/etc.), the opening movie, two commercials, and a "special" battle movie.
Lastly we have videos of some of the skits in the game. It's very similar to Tales of the Abyss, although it has yet to be seen if the character's skit icons grow in size like some of the ones in Abyss did...
First off, we have battle videos of the currently known playable character, except for Kunzite. Shing and Kohak's videos also show off their Mystic Artes, which we've seen parts of in previous scans and videos.
We also have two other videos. One shows off the a dungeon in the game (which takes place on a hill), and another which shows off a cutscene (seems to be that one where Shing finds people washed ashore).
The first video shows that you can change jobs on the Van Eltia, and the second shows off the Monster Book, Synopsis, etc. (the same types of menus we had in the first game, just showing how they look in this game). All of the images from the update have been ripped and added to our Gallery.
All of the images have been ripped and added to the Gallery, which will be accessible once the new layout redesign launches soon (you may have noticed that our YouTube channel was redesigned to match the color scheme of the new layout now ;)).
Five new Tales of Hearts scans have been released, which show off some of Kohak's Mystic Arte (Neptune Rage) & Shing's (romainzed as Shououjineizan). There is a video of Kohak's Mystic Arte here, sans the cut-in.
The official blog was also updated with some new screenshots, some images of how they developed the menu system in the game, as well as two pieces of character artwork. The person with the purple hood we've seen in the trailer is named Incarose, and the girl that Calcedny has referred to as Paraiba.
We have quite a few updates today. First off, the videos and the images from the Tales Channel update are on our YouTube channel and our Gallery, respectively (although you won't see the Gallery update till the main site goes back online).
The first image shows that Lilith, Claire, Reala, Asch, Estelle, & Collete (although we already knew those when that advertisement leaked earlier). The second scan shows that a Paladin-like class is confirmed (Flynn included, possibly?). The third scan shows silhouettes of Barbatos and Dhaos, two of the most well-known Tales of villains, so maybe we'll have them as the main enemies this time around (and maybe other enemies from the other games)?
The official minisite has been updated with three character videos (Suzu, Keele, & Chloe). A new section for the classes in the game was also added (which deals with that class that has the "skull" headpiece).
The videos have been added to our YouTube channel. The images have been ripped as well, and will be in the Gallery when the site relaunches soon.
The Tales of Festival website has been updated with news that a 2-disc DVD of the event will be released on January 23rd, 2009 for 6,090 Yen (around $60).
This DVD will not include the mini-concert the Japanese musical group DEEN (who did Destiny and Hearts's cover songs) performed, or the advanced screening of the Tales of the Abyss anime, however.
Tales Channel has updated their site to announce that Tales of Hearts will now be released on December 18th, instead of the previous release date of December 11th.
IGN put up a special article today concerning a real-life version of the cooking staple, Mabo Curry, that is in the various Tales of games.
Namco-Bandai got the convenience store chain Circle K Sunkus to create a real-life version of the Mabo Curry recipe, crafted to be a near-replica of how it appears in the game. They will start selling it on December 9th, two days before the game's release in Japan. It will continue to be sold for two more weeks. One bowl will cost 500 Yen.
You will also receive a special Hearts-themed photo frame that comes with an SD card filled with a Hearts-specific slideshow of images.
Over the last few years, Namco-Bandai has done character ranking contests. This year, they are doing the fourth version of this contest. For voting, you will receive a special exclusive wallpaper. Or you can check out this new section on our Gallery instead. :P
Voting started today (November 17th), and it runs until December 12th, 2008. The results will be revealed at Jump Festa 2009 (December 20th & 21st). Tales Channel will update the contest page sometime after that.
If you want to vote, you need to pick one character from each of the categories. The last field (with the textbox) is for writing in a character who was not included. The left button at the end is for submitting your entry; the one to the right resets your entry.
The official minisite for Tales of Hearts has been updated with quite a few new sections.
Richea's profile has been added, some new screenshots were added to the System section, and finally Calcedny & Richea's wallpapers were added.
All of these images have been added to our Gallery.
Famitsu just revealed a special Hearts-themed Accessory Pack, which seems to include a hard case for the Nintendo DS (featuring some custom Kohak-centered sketch artwork), a extra-long teal-colored stylus with the game's logo on it, and a chain that seems to latch onto the case, with Shing and Kohak at the end of it (it's kinda like a keychain).
Game Watch also has a general preview of the games that were featured at Jump Festa 2008. If you look closely, you can see Shing's Mystic Arte (unnamed in the screenshot), as well as what seems to be Yuri from Tales of Vesperia.
An image which seems to be the official boxart for Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 has been leaked onto the web.
It is not confirmed as of yet, since we will have to wait till either an gaming website like Famitsu, or the official website, officially reveals it. ;)
The official minisite has been updated with three character videos (Anise, Kyle, & Ruca). There are also two new System videos, but for some reason the videos aren't streaming off the server correctly (might be the influx of visitors due to the update), so check back in a day or so, when we should be able to get a hold of the two videos.
The full version of that scan we posted earlier has been revealed. The green-haired woman's official name is Richea Spodune. From the scan, it appears Shing and Hisui find her washed up on some beach.
This is from the Chinese Famitsu, so it might take a while to get proper translations, compared to a Japanese scan.
We have a new full Famitsu scan, as well as a partial scan from the second volume of the Tales of Magazine.
The Famitsu scan shows off Chloe, Jade, & Kyle (possibly the next "round" of characters to be revealed on the official minisite?) in-game, as well as two new characters specific to this game, the scientist Janis and his assistant. Apparently the supply of Mana is decreasing, and he has discovered a sub-energy called Larvae, and wants to make it the dominant energy source. You can also see some skits from the previously announced pre-order bonus, and a few shots from the animated opening.
The partial scan apparently reveals that the romanized name for the Mormo "replacement" is Paneer.
Three new partial scans have been leaked, which reveal more information about the "cameo" character system that was revealed in the last scan. It seems they are also using characters from popular Namco-Bandai properties, such as THE iDOLM@STER will be present.
The radio version of Eien no Ashita, which can be found here (as well as embedded in the Full Story link below, has been leaked onto YouTube.
IGN's review for the game is now up, which received a 6.7/10. Not much of a surprise, considering many at IGN don't care that much for "old-school" JRPG's (compared to WRPG's).
If you're a Tales fan, you pretty much already know what to expect from this game. ;)
GameTrailers.com has posted their review for the game as well, which can be found here. It received a 7.9/10. The video is embedded in the Full Story link below.
A new Famitsu scan has been leaked on the internet. This one shows off a interesting new feature, which allows Jade, Kyle, Judas, & Lloyd to join in the battle. They don't have a HP/etc. bar, so they could either be a Narikiri Doll-type item, or a summoning-type item.
The scan also reveals the CG and Anime artwork for a new character, romainized into something close to Lithia Spodune. She fits the "princess of thorns" title from the story info we got a while back when the game was first revealed (which likely means she is an NPC).
We have a new Weekly Shonen Jump scan, and an advertisement from the official minisite.
The ad shows off the pre-order bonus, which is a DVD. It is currently titled Special DVD, but like the one initially for Tales of Hearts, it could likely have a name change closer to its release. The ad also shows what you can obtain in the sequel if you import clear data from the original. You will get a special sword, called the Seven Summer, a special quest to fight against Jade and Zelos (the two usual "heads" of the drama skits) in the Arena, and a third feature that ties into the PlayStation Spot system in Japan (details currently unknown).
The scan shows that Asch, Collete, Chloe, Kyle, & Jade will be playable. The rest of the scan is old information we already knew.
Lastly, our YouTube channel has been updated with the three new videos that were added to the minisite, featuring Stahn & Rubia showing off their Mystic Artes, and Chat showing off her voice in a skit, along with some battle animation (similar to Mao's video earlier). The videos can be found after the "jump" below.
The official minisite has been updated with three character videos (Mao, Reid, & Yuri) and four video from the new System section that launched with this update.
As always, the videos are available on our YouTube channel, and are embedded in the Full Story link below.
(Downloads for these videos will be available soon. As you can see, we are working to update the index pages for all of the consoles --- all of the other content has already been updated. We are planning a massive media update once that is done, on both the site and our YouTube channel.)
Namco-Bandai has updated the official minisite for Tales of Hearts with information on the pre-order bonuses. The Anime version has a drama-style bonus (the name is currently unknown, since it is in Japanese). The CG version has is called the Visual & Original Soundtrack DVD.
On a side note, Tales of Innocence is being re-released at a budget price of 2940 Yen, down from its original price of 6,090 Yen. This is being done as a "Welcome Price 2800" deal, likely to build up hype for Hearts's imminent release.
(Yes, that is a sideboob shot of Innes on the CG DVD. :P)
We have some more information on both of the DVD's. The Anime DVD will be titled Viva Full! Tales of DVD (Hearts Channel). It includes the obligatory drama skit, which will be called Atsumare! Tales Back!. It also includes Tales of Festival 2008 coverage, and the anime version of the opening theme.
The CG version includes the original versions of the CG character (possibly beta versions of their designs before they were finalized?) and the CG version of the opening theme.
Both DVD's will also include a PV for a new Tales of title. It is unknown if this will be for the Wii mothership title that was announced this Summer, or for Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 that will be released a month or so after Hearts. There will also be some sort of information about Namco-Bandai (currently unknown what this will entail).
The official minisite for Tales of Hearts has been updated with Calcedny Arcome's artwork (here), as well as two new wallpapers (here & here), as well as some miscellaneous in-game and battle screenshots.
(I would have had these uploaded yesterday when they were released, but I had two tests I had to study for at uni, and of course that takes top priority. ;))
A new boxart for the CG version has been leaked onto the website in the last week. It is *very* similar to the one we saw before, except that it has a silver-ish outline of the whale and the tower we've seen before (much like the boxart for the North American boxart for Final Fantasy V & VI).
We also have two new scans, which gives the blonde knight's official name, Chalcedny Arcome. He is 16 years old. We also learned some new info about the Soma system, which apparently includes the following skills: Parameter, Battle, Action, and Support. Parameter increase your stats. Battle control how you learn skills and spells. Action includes stuff like aiming and backstep (Hearts's version of AD Skills, perhaps, but for attack-related skills?), and lastly Support does things like decreasing waiting time from using items (same as Action, but for non-attacking-related skills?). There also seems to be a Special type of skill as well.
Nothing that new dealing with the Soma system, but it seems that each Soma builds off of the player's playing style. For instance, one form of Shing's Soma can be focused on attacking, which brings it's own innate skills. This seems like an advanced version of the class system used in Tales of Innocence. Dungeons are also reported to be more open and expansive, unlike Innocence's straight-forward dungeons. This means that puzzles will be in the game, much like a normal main-series game.
Some more information about the game has been released. You have two accessory slots that can be used by each character. Instead of cooking, you have "Recovery Stones". Three difficulty modes (currently) are implemented: Simple, Normal, and Hard. There is an auto-text option, which can be turned off. Lastly, the "Monster Book", a series staple, will be present in this game.
Two new scans were leaked, which reveals some new playable characters in the game. Mint, Keele (which was theorized due to that skit screenshot in one of the previous scans), Mao, Rubia (another Tempest character!), and Ruca. A new Slot Skill system was announced (currently unknown as to what it is about), as well as the Infinity Jam feature, which had you use your "Awakening" bar to create combo attacks with your party until it ran out (which was a modified version of Legendia's Climax Mode). This likely will use the Overlimit bar in this game.
The other scan shows off all of the currently known character's Mystic Arte cut-ins.
UPDATE (10/24 - 5:52 PM EST): Famitsu has an article that describes the "Slot Skill" system we talked about earlier. It seems this system is made for combo fanatics, allowing you to use multiple artes past the normal amount in a combo. How this works, or how many are allowed, is currently unknown.
UPDATE (10/24 - 10:08 AM EST): We've uploaded three new videos from the official minisite to our YouTube channel, which features Caius Qualls, Genis Sage, and Presea Combatir.
Also, the official release date and price for the game in Japan has been revealed. It will be released on January 29th, 2009, for 5200 Yen.
A new partial scan has revealed a new class, although it is unknown what the name of it is due to the quality of the scan.
We also have all of the new character preview videos uploaded on our new YouTube channel. We also changed the playlist structure so it shows the latest updated playlist, then the Promotional Videos (PV's) & Commercials (CM's).
Downloads of these videos will be up alongside the ToH TGS 2008 video/download this weekend.
Three new partial scans for Tales of Hearts have been leaked onto the web. According to Rpgmonkey on the official Tales forums, there will be raw materials that can strengthen Soma, and those Soma can also evolve via a feature called Soma Evolve, which will give it a different name. New skills can be learned from that new Soma.
It also looks like Symphonia-style Unison Attacks are being included.
(FYI, the TGS 2008 ToH video should be on our YouTube channel and as a download sometime this weekend, if everything works as planned.)
The link above has downloads of all of the videos released by Tales Channel (except for the lo-res version of the first PV, since there was issues trying to download it), as well as streaming videos from our new YouTube channel. We also fixed some URL issues in a few of our videos there (YouTube added /). on some of the links by accident).
A video of the game has also appeared on YouTube from the Tokyo Game Show 2008, which can be found here. Rpgmonkey took a collage of the Mystic Artes revealed in the video, which is attached to this news post.
(This isn't important enough for it's own news post, but Gamespot has put up a preview of Tales of Hearts. Nothing new, but it's nice to see major gaming websites covering the game. ;))
The official minisite for Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 has been updated with a new video for Kanonno, as well as character pages + videos for Farah, Guy, and Raine. All of these new videos can be found at our new YouTube channel. The videos have are currently being uploaded to our server (a few are 10 MB+), so once that's finished, the downloads page for the videos will be created. This should be done later today, or sometime tommorow at the latest.
We also added some images from the Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut minisite (I finally found out where the .swf files were hidden, which is what we rip the hi-res images from). Videos and voice actor interviews were also extracted, and will be uploaded to the website in the next few weeks. We're almost done fixing up the old code in the PlayStation2 section, so Tales of the Abyss update should be finished in a week or so (it's basically a mix of fixing up old, outdated code and making sure the pages are XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid).
If you haven't already noticed, we've done two things yesterday. First was implementing a "What's New" banner above the news posts. This currently only displays a banner for our new YouTube channel, but in time, notices for our other sections will be rotated alongside the YouTube banner. Secondly, we've reimplemented the Google AdSense ads after fixing an issue with them earlier.
We have a megadeuce of a post for you guys today (bonus points to those who know the reference ;)).
Gamekyo has interviewed Teruaki Konishi, one of the people working on the game. One of the more important parts of the video is that they aren't shooting down the prospect that they will localize Tales of Hearts, but they're not announcing they will. The video is in the "full story" link at the end of this post.
Next up is 1up.com, which reveals in a new preview that they will be adding new features to the North American localization. To quote the article...
"Loading GameCube clear data from Symphonia randomly unlocks certain items, in-game currency, and other bonuses at the beginning of the game. Second, the North American release increases the available motion-controlled special-move shortcuts to eight, up from four in the Japanese version."
Last is a trailer from Tokyo Game Show 2008. From what I can see, it looks like Namco is doing a proper localization with the game, instead of riding off of the original's cotails and doing a half-assed job. (@a745, I like Emil's VA in this game. *laughs*)
Gamekyo has uploaded a gameplay video of Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2. There's nothing particularly new in the video, however. Click the link below to watch the video...
