Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon
This game takes place over one hundred years after the events in Tales of Phantasia, and centers around two siblings, Dio and Mel. This game was the start of the "Narikiri" clothing system, which allowed the characters to take on different roles, such as a healer, a swordmaster, etc. This also allowed them to take on the persona of famous Tales characters, such as Mint from Tales of Phantasia.
Since this was for the GameBoy Color, it featured a stripped-down version of the LMBS that was turned-based instead of real-time. However, the graphics during battle were very Tales-esque, so it didn't seem like a Final Fantasy ripoff.
