Main Website XHTML 1.0 Transition Validated + Other Validations

The main section of Symphonic Heaven should now be XHTML 1.0 Transitional, CSS 2.1, RSS, and XSPF Playlist valid. There are two sections where there might be some small errors, which is in some news posts, since they use & instead of the proper longhand version of it (web developers will know what I mean), as well as the embedded videos from websites like IGN.

The first is an issue on our end (we need to change the &'s over), while the other issue is technically the offending website's issue for not having XHTML-valid code, although we are working to implement a fix for this.

The Links section is not valid (we were waiting to fix up the issues on the main website before going to that) --- that should be fixed tomorrow morning if nothing too bad pops up. : P

(Note that any issues on the forum won't be fixed until we move to MyBB 1.4, since this template will be discarded in place of the new one we have made for 1.4.)
Two new scans have been released, which can be found here and here.

You can see on the second scan that some of the bosses have their own cut-ins, something Team Symphonia always does in their games (since Tales of Symphonia for the PS2). They also showed off some sort of creature that seems to function like an airship. From a rough translation from rpgmonkey at the official Tales forums, we also know that Wonder Chef is back.

The rumors that the status screen art being changed to 3D models also proved to be true, as you can see when they show off Estelle's alternate costume (maid/nurse?) in the second scan.
Dengeki just posted an article with a bunch of new screenshots.

Besides showing off more of the character editor, we also see more detailed in-game models of the Tales characters, and it looks like Kanonno might be playable this time around.

(These images will be added to the Gallery when we do the XHTML validation, as well as a few other images still in the queue.)

This is a just a quick progress report to let everyone know how the XHTML/etc. validation is going.

Most of the backend scripts have been updated, and should be outputting properly. There are some minor issues like the TotW:RM Bestiary, which as you can see from the other pages in that section, is being worked on at the moment. Thankfully most of the issues so far are quick fixes, although there's been a couple that took a while to fix (since we had to do a small tweak, test, do another tweak, test, etc. etc.).

At the rate things are going, it shouldn't be too long before this is finished, since most "alike" pages share the same code (like all of the character pages), so it's just doing a quick validation check to make sure everything is alright. This also goes for sections like the galleries. ; )

UPDATE (11:07 PM EST): The entire TotW:RM and TotA sections are updated. This was the bulk of the edits that needed to be made to our scripts, so it's just doing some quick spot-checking for everything else. The gallery/merchandise/downloads use different scripts, so those may very well have some issues that need to be fixed (although hopefully not *too* many : P).

UPDATE (9:17 AM EST - 7/23): As you can see in the "footer", we have validated the CSS, RSS, and the "playlist" that powers our Latest News ticker. Once we are sure that the content is validated, a button for that will also be added. We also made some small edits to the CSS styling (compressing some redundant styles into one style, removing some non-validating styles, moving the order of them around, etc.), so please notify us if you happen to notice any issues due to this change. ; )
Siliconera has released news that Namco-Bandai has trademarked the game in North America.
They did the exact same thing for Tales of Innocence, so this is in no way guaranteed that a release outside Japan will occur. We just know that Namco-Bandai is thinking about it.
UPDATE (6:44 PM EST): Cless from Tales Cless (known for the ToP PSX translation) has found the link for the patent.

Why there was a backlog of news...

You may have been wondering why there was such a backlog of news posted this morning. Last Friday, I pulled a muscle in my left leg, which basically forced me to be bedridden for the entire weekend. It's feeling better today (although not completely healed), so I was able to post the news that was released last weekend.

In starting work on validating the code, I inadvertently messed up the banner area on the other pages --- this will be fixed in an hour or so, hopefully (although the forum will not be updated until 1.4's release, so I won't have to redo the layout again.

UPDATE (11:08 AM EST): The "basic" structure of the layout should be XHTML valid now (before the extra content). The mySymphonic links have been moved back to a section in the navigation, and some navigation sections were moved around for better placement (such as Around the Web moved to the top).

Due to issues with the new "Latest News" rotator, it has been hidden from IE users (as well as a disclaimer being shown that the site won't appear as expected in any current stable versions of IE), above the banner. This message shouldn't appear to non-IE users (please contact us if your non-IE browser shows this message.

During the validation process, please note that parts of the site may go wonky as we test to make sure our fixes don't accidentally introduce new bugs in the code. If you see an issue, and it stays for more than a couple hours, please contact us and file a "XHTML Validation Bug Report" (a category for this has been added).

More Tales of Hearts Information from Famitsu

Famitsu recently had an interview with Hideo Baba and Manabu Koike, the two people heading up the development of Tales of Hearts. Thanks to rpgmonkey, we have a translation of the interview. Here's the key points...

The game's theme is the connection of hearts.
The developement of the game has been going on since Winter 2006 (tying into right after Destiny PS2's release).
The movie scenes will total 10 minutes altogether, for each (i.e., the anime scenes are 10 minutes, and vice-versa for the CG scenes).
The last CG scene in the trailer was part of the CG openning.
The Nintendo DS's touch screen will used in battle, as well as accessing menus. The microphone is not currently planned to be used.
Off-screen characters will be used in combonation attacks, not in actual battle. Think of Marvel vs. Capcom.
The ending being a movie has not been decided, since they haven't thought of a final medium.
Not clear if the CG and Animes scenes will be in seperate cartridges, or both in one.
The battle system is very similar to the old ones. I.e., overlimit gauges, etc.
GRADE will be impelemented. No news if guilds exist.
A character called Hisui was talked about, but they never revealed who he's supposed to be.

Tales of Vesperia Weekend News Recap

(This is a round-up of all of the Vesperia-related news that was released over the weekend.)

The official minisite added videos for Raven and Judith, featuring their Burst Artes and Fatal Strikes. A countdown-themed wallpaper (with calendars for July-September, with the August 7th release date marked) was also released, which has been added to our Gallery in 1024 x 768 & 1280 x 1024 dimensions.

New Famitsu scans were also released, which can be found here, here, and here. This reveals that the game will include the recent series staple of alternate costumes (something Team Symphonia is known for), and also shows off more of the "Attachment" system, which includes Yuri's mustache, and Rita's bunny ears.

GameTrailers released a new E3-related interview with Dennis Lee, the Senior Marketing Director for the game in North America. There's nothing new in this interview, but it does show off some of the anime intro, in-game scenes, as well as the battle system. The video will also be embedded in the reply to this post, so you can view it right in the forum. Also, an area on Namco-Bandai's official website has been created for the game, validating the August 26th release date that had been rumored for the past few weeks.

Lastly, Famitsu has a preview for the Tales Channel DVD, which is the pre-order bonus for the game in Japan.

(Whew, that was a lot of news, eh? ; ))

UPDATE (7:59 AM EST - 7/22): Four new scans were added to the Famitsu scans section. There's nothing new, except showing off more of the attachments system.
All of the galleries from the old script have been moved over into the CMS. There are a few sections missing (Boxart, Fanart, etc.), but those are being absorbed into other sections (like downloads, or a section in that game's gallery).

As for the "what's next" mention in the last news post, I am going to be going through and fixing the code so it validates properly (thus, likely fixing some-cross browser displaying issues in the process (and maybe helping the site load faster too ; )). The remaining gallery images will also be added in this fix. This will likely take a few weeks due to all of the backend work that had to be done before we could do this (i.e., creating the backend code now, so we don't have to take time to do it later). We ask your patience as we spend time to fix up the site and make it a better experience for everyone. : )
The official minisite for Tales of Hearts was updated yesterday, replacing the "teaser" page that only had the trailer up for download/streaming. It has both a CG and an Anime "side" to it.

It was relatively easy to find out where the .swf files (what is used to make the Flash minisite), so all of the important images have been ripped and added to our Tales of Hearts gallery. There's a 3 MB huge 2000 x 900 render of the whale we've seen in the concept artwork, which is pretty cool, along with nice images of the cliff CG scene we saw earlier.

As more updates are made to the minisite, we will be "ripping" images, much like we did for the Tales of Vesperia gallery. As of today, the Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 minisite has yet to be updated beyond the "teaser" page.

EDIT: As you may have noticed, the DVD Dramas and Animes sections, namely the gallery links, are not working. We are almost done moving all of the files over (only one left is the ToS: The Animation gallery). This will be finished either later today, or early tomorrow morning. The plans afterwards will be explained with the "official" news post for this update.
From what we can see, it seems like they have picked a proper font (replacing the placeholder one used back during the Nintendo Power special).
ArsTechina also has images of playable builds of Tales of Vesperia & Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, although due to the TV's used, the image is bright. You can see the English main menu for DotNW, however. And those "banners" might very well be the designs we see on the boxart. ; )
throughhim413 recently announced that he is starting a fan translation project for Tales of Innocence, which was released late last year. We were given permissions to show the images from his updates on Symphonic (with an obvious About / Credits section before the images), which is now in our Tales of Innocence gallery, under the normal navigation "block" for that area.

Some screenshots from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World & Tales of Vesperia were also added, mainly from both of their Developer's Blogs.
The PC (Windows) is now fully updated. This only includes the galleries, since there was no Downloads sections for this area.

The galleries for the Tales of Mobile games have been moved and renamed, but the pages on the site haven't been made yet. Since this is a large section (over 7+ games), it might take a few days, compared to the other updates.

UPDATE (6:02 PM EST): All of the Mobile Games up to Reversi have been added. That section is approximately 33% done.

UPDATE (9:42 PM EST): All of the Mobile Games up to Tales of Commons have been added. We are just over 50% done with the gallery conversions.
The galleries and downloads sections for all three of the previously non-updated PlayStation sections are now online. This leaves the Others section. They will be updated in the order found in the drop-down menu.

Also, a small minor change was made tonight. The news "ticker" has been edited so it only shows the game-related announcements, such as a new Tales Channel update, or a magazine scan, instead of showing the websites news along with it. I am planning to have a list in the navigation that will list the latest websites updates (after the gallery/downloads updates are finished).

All of the PlayStation Portable galleries are now online. I didn't have the time this morning to update the console page to reflect these changes (since the Downloads sections are updated yet for most of the PSP games) --- those will be done either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

UPDATE (11:02 PM EST): The Downloads sections are now online, but the menus have yet to be updated to the new format. That will be fixed tomorrow morning.

UPDATE (10:31 AM EST - 7/12): The menus have now been updated. Work on the PlayStation section has now started. The Downloads pages are updated, as well as the ToE PSX gallery. The other two galleries (ToP PSX and ToF: Vol. 1) are moved to the new location, but the pages haven't been created yet. They might be up sometime tonight if I have the time. ; )
